Method for Manufacturing Low-Molecular-Weight Oligo-Beta-Glucan Using Fluid Plasma Process

Technology for Manufacturing Highly Absorbable Low-Molecular-Weight Oligo-Beta-Glucan via Solution Plasma Depolymerization

This technology utilizes a Solution Plasma Process (SPP) to depolymerize beta-glucan dissolved in a neutral salt solution using high-voltage, high-frequency plasma in a Teflon reactor, producing low-molecular-weight oligo-beta-glucan with a molecular weight of 700–800 Da, along with its application compositions.

While reducing the molecular weight of beta-glucan enhances skin and bodily absorption and boosts immune effects, conventional methods such as enzymatic treatment, hydrogen peroxide, or radiation can compromise its biological properties. Furthermore, these methods are often costly, complex, and leave behind harmful solvents or processing residues, resulting in lower yields and purity.

This technology uses only plasma discharge in a neutral salt solution—without harmful solvents—to break down beta-glucan into short chains, resulting in oligo-beta-glucan with improved absorption and antioxidant efficacy. It can be applied to immune-boosting pharmaceuticals, antioxidant cosmetics, and health supplements, providing high-purity functional polysaccharide materials with minimal risk of residual substances.

Key Features:
  • Preparing a solution by dissolving beta-glucan in a neutral salt solution, such as sodium nitrate or sodium chloride, and adding it to a Teflon reactor
  • Depolymerizing the beta-glucan by discharging high-voltage (500 V to 1000 V) and high-frequency (50 kHz to 100 kHz) plasma within the Teflon reactor
  • Low-molecular-weight oligo-beta-glucan with a molecular weight of 700 to 800 Da, depolymerized via the solution plasma process
  • Pharmaceutical compositions for immune enhancement, cosmetic compositions for antioxidant effects, and health functional food compositions containing the low-molecular-weight oligo-beta-glucan as an active ingredient
