This technology is a composition for preventing or improving hyperpigmentation-related disorders, containing the purinergic receptor antagonist A438079 as an active ingredient. It is formulated for use in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food applications.
Pigmentary disorders cause not only aesthetic concerns but also psychosocial distress. Conventional agents developed to regulate pigmentation have faced limitations, such as side effects like the potential to promote tumor formation, driving a growing demand for non-toxic, cost-effective alternatives.
This technology inhibits melanin synthesis by blocking purinergic receptors, including P2X7, providing a whitening effect without human toxicity. It can be applied to whitening cosmetics and treatments for melasma, freckles, age spots, blemishes, and solar lentigo, offering product differentiation through a novel mechanism of action targeting these receptors.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning for research into the effects of purinergic signaling on melanogenesis in melanocytes and the discovery of new therapeutic targets for pigmentation.
