This technology is a whitening cosmetic composition containing an extract of the halophyte Spergularia marina, which grows in domestic tidal flats, as an active ingredient. The same extract is also used in pharmaceutical compositions for treating hyperpigmentation disorders and in quasi-drug whitening products.
Existing whitening agents such as kojic acid, arbutin, and hydroquinone often lack sufficient efficacy or are associated with cytotoxicity. Consequently, there has been a continuous demand for natural whitening ingredients that are both safe and highly effective at inhibiting melanin production.
This technology utilizes an extract obtained by extracting Spergularia marina with alcohol-based solvents or fractionating it with chloroform and ethyl acetate to effectively inhibit melanin synthesis, showing up to three times higher inhibitory effects than arbutin. Derived from domestic halophytes, it carries a low risk of toxicity and side effects. It can be applied to whitening creams, essences, sun care products, and topical treatments for dark spots and freckles, allowing for the development of differentiated product lines using high-efficacy, natural whitening ingredients.
