This technology is a feed additive composition for dairy cows containing the Bifidobacterium breve LMC520 strain, which produces CLA using linoleic acid as a substrate. It is designed to increase the CLA content in milk when fed to dairy cows.
Enhancing the functionality of milk has traditionally involved simply adding refined functional substances during processing, which often fails to meet consumer preferences and raises concerns regarding food safety and the stability of the functional ingredients. While methods such as replacing feed with heat-treated soybean or linseed oil have been proposed, using CLA-producing lactic acid bacteria directly in feed to increase milk CLA content has not been previously established.
This technology utilizes gut-derived lactic acid bacteria with proven CLA-producing capabilities as a feed additive, enhancing the physiological activity of dairy cows while naturally producing raw milk rich in CLA. The additive can be easily mixed into standard feed as a portion of the total weight. It can be applied to functional compound feed for dairy farms, the production of premium high-CLA milk, and the supply of raw milk for functional dairy products, allowing for the launch of differentiated milk products enriched with CLA—known for its anti-obesity and anti-cancer properties—without the need for additives during processing.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the biosynthesis and enhancement of functional conjugated fatty acids.
