This technology features a pharmaceutical and health functional food composition for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer, containing 1-(4-(3-chloro-4-(3-fluorobenzyloxy)phenylamino)quinazolin-6-yl)urea or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts as an active ingredient. It also includes a method for promoting cell death by administering this compound to colorectal cancer cells.
Colorectal cancer is a solid tumor that grows in clusters around blood vessels, making it difficult for drugs to penetrate the core, and it has been hard to cure with surgery and radiation alone. Existing anticancer drugs like fluoropyrimidines, irinotecan, and oxaliplatin often lead to drug resistance and side effects with prolonged use, creating a need for new therapeutic agents.
This technology utilizes a mechanism where the compound activates caspases 3, 8, and 9, induces PARP cleavage, and upregulates DR5 and Nrf2 to trigger apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells. It can be used as a basic or acid-addition salt and formulated with carriers or excipients. Applicable as a candidate for drug-resistant colorectal cancer, in combination therapies, or as a preventive health supplement, it offers a new treatment option that selectively kills cancer cells while minimizing impact on healthy cells.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for research on new hedgehog inhibitor drug development and combination therapy with the candidate substance Genipin to overcome drug resistance.
