Construction method for end-reinforced half-precast concrete beams

Listed on
2026-10-12
A formwork-free construction method using half-PC beams reinforced with end steel plates, mounted on polygonal pre-assembled columns.

This technology involves factory-producing half-precast concrete beams featuring main reinforcement and upward shear connectors within a half-panel thinner than the total beam depth. End steel plates are attached to the sides of both ends, and removable side panels are attached to the center. These are installed on-site by mounting them onto columns. After placing the deck, slab concrete is poured over the half-panel, and the side panels are removed.

While PC construction is advantageous for shortening schedules and ensuring quality, the increasing size of beams and columns has led to heavier lifting weights and more frequent lifts, complicating production, transport, and installation, while making it difficult to ensure joint integrity. Existing PC beams that form beams and slabs together without formwork are heavy due to their solid concrete construction, increasing transport frequency and the cost of large lifting equipment. They also lack end reinforcement, limiting their shear resistance.

This technology uses polygonal pre-assembled columns composed of precast panels on each side and temporary fasteners for external assembly. The panels contain main reinforcement, vertical bars, exposed shear loops, and hoop bars with bent connection ends. Placing the beam ends, equipped with steel plates, onto these columns integrates the joints during concrete pouring. Suitable for warehouses, industrial centers, retail facilities, and apartment parking structures, it significantly reduces beam weight for smaller equipment, enhances shear and moment resistance via end plates, and eliminates the need for beam bottom formwork and shoring.

Key Features:
  • Factory production and transport of end-reinforced half-precast concrete beams to the site
  • Lifting the beam and mounting the end-plate-equipped ends onto the top of the polygonal pre-assembled columns
  • Installing the deck on the beam, pouring and curing concrete over the half-panel, and removing the beam side panels
  • Polygonal pre-assembled column consisting of vertical precast panels on each side and external temporary fasteners that function as formwork
