Intelligent robot capable of inter-floor travel by operating elevators with a manipulator

This technology relates to an intelligent robot that performs mapping, navigation, and cleaning, and a control method thereof, enabling the robot to move between floors in a building by operating elevator buttons with a manipulator.

Existing autonomous robots have limited autonomy in multi-story buildings as they require separate infrastructure or human intervention to travel between floors.

To address this, the technology uses sensing to identify elevator locations and buttons, and employs an articulated manipulator to operate the buttons, allowing the robot to travel between floors independently.

Key Features:
  • A first sensing unit that performs mapping for an intelligent robot that actively navigates and cleans while mapping.
  • A body equipped with the first sensing unit and moved by a plurality of wheels.
  • A manipulator that is housed within the body, extends when predetermined conditions are met, and includes a plurality of joints.
  • Recognizes elevator buttons detected during mapping as objects and operates them with the manipulator to perform inter-floor travel.
