This technology is a safety device for fall victims that houses an airbag module and a folded parachute in the space between a safety leg guard worn by the worker and a fastening band. When a tilt sensor detects a fall posture, the control unit sends a signal to the igniter to inflate the airbag and deploy the parachute.
Falls are a major cause of accidents at construction sites, and when they occur from high elevations, workers often have no way to react, frequently leading to serious or fatal injuries. Existing fall-prevention lanyards are inconvenient because they must be unhooked and reattached every time a worker moves, leading to frequent non-use, and there remains a risk of falling during the brief moment when the hook is being moved.
This technology detects a fall when conductive fluid inside a sensor container, divided by funnel-shaped partitions, moves toward the reed electrode space based on the tilt of the leg. When the igniter fires, a tip on a moving plate punctures the gas canister seal, inflating the airbag with compressed gas. The force of the inflation releases the fastening band, deploying a parachute connected by ropes around the safety leg guard to slow the fall. Applicable to high-rise construction, bridge and plant work at heights, and exterior painting or maintenance, this system reduces potential injury during a fall regardless of whether a safety lanyard is properly attached.
