This technology is a fall protection device consisting of a stepping member, which includes an insertion part that fits into the outer surface of a utility pole and a support part with a wide cross-section, and a sole member fixed to the safety shoe sole, featuring overlapping temporary coupling grooves that correspond to the shape of the stepping member at various stepping angles.
Utility pole workers climb by stepping on step bolts while wearing safety shoes, but fatal accidents due to falls during position changes have been a persistent issue. Existing step bolts coated with anti-slip particles can become slippery as the particles or shoe soles wear down, and they are prone to slipping even with minor movements while the worker is standing on them.
In this technology, the temporary coupling grooves of the sole member interlock with the shape of the stepping member to secure the foot, and the overlapping grooves designed for various stepping angles ensure the connection is maintained even when the worker changes position. A safety hook can be attached to the head of the through-hole at the free end of the stepping member, and directional protrusions on the insertion part prevent the support part from shifting. Applicable to power line maintenance, telecommunications pole work, and street light repair, this system allows for the continued use of existing step bolts and safety shoes while significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls for workers at heights.
