This technology is a safety handle assembly featuring a fire extinguisher body with a nozzle housed inside a case attached to a bus or subway grab bar, with a piston at the top of the pressurized handle section sealing the bottom of the body. It functions as a standard handle during normal use, but in the event of a fire, pulling the first safety pin and pushing up the pressurized section releases the extinguishing agent through the nozzle.
While existing public transit handles have incorporated breathing apparatuses or filters to assist passengers during fires, they lacked the ability to suppress the initial fire itself. Furthermore, many passengers are unaware of the location or operation of fire extinguishers stored in specific areas of the vehicle, and accessing them in crowded buses or subways can be difficult.
This technology turns the handle that passengers are already holding into a fire extinguisher, allowing anyone to immediately begin initial suppression near the source of a fire. By incorporating a cover, a second safety pin, a piston seal, and a locking pin, it prevents the agent from leaking or the pin from dislodging due to vehicle vibrations or accidental pressure. It can be applied to interior handles and safety equipment in buses, subways, and trains, providing distributed fire suppression throughout the vehicle without requiring additional installation space.
