This technology is a composition that prevents hair loss and promotes hair growth by using materials that inhibit the expression of the Rab27b gene, which is associated with hair growth, as an active ingredient. The inhibitory material is provided in the form of a gene expression inhibitor and can be widely formulated into pharmaceutical compositions, quasi-drugs, and cosmetic compositions.
While hair transplantation and drug therapy have been widely used to treat hair loss, they have limitations: hair loss often resumes once treatment is stopped, and some drugs have been reported to cause side effects such as sexual dysfunction. Although approaches to block gene expression have been introduced, existing targets have been limited to a few, such as androgen metabolic pathways. Rab27b has only been reported in relation to melanocyte dendrite formation or hair color, leaving its link to hair growth previously unknown.
This technology offers a new target-based approach to hair loss by utilizing the fact that reducing Rab27b expression promotes hair growth in resting hair follicles, with significant hair growth effects confirmed in animal studies. It can be applied to the development of specialized hair loss cosmetics, scalp care products like shampoos and tonics, quasi-drugs, and hair loss treatments, helping to build a differentiated hair loss solution portfolio with targets distinct from existing drugs.
