This technology is a reagent composition that uses phellandrene-series compounds—natural fragrance components found in plant oils such as eucalyptus, dill, and rosemary—as an active ingredient to inhibit the initiation factors of stress responses in skin cells in an in vitro environment. The registered scope of rights covers the reagent composition, which is used for researching and evaluating skin stress-relieving materials.
While skin aging caused by environmental stress is increasing due to intensified UV radiation and rising fine dust levels, commercially available stress-care cosmetics have been limited to temporarily soothing irritated skin. Furthermore, as stress-related skin conditions are mostly chronic, there has been a demand for naturally derived materials with minimal side effects for long-term use, yet the skin stress-relieving efficacy of phellandrene had not been previously studied.
This technology utilizes plant-derived compounds already used as fragrances and food additives to confirm the efficacy of inhibiting both CRF activity and POMC gene expression in skin cells. It can be applied to efficacy evaluation during the development of raw materials for stress-care cosmetics and as a research reagent for screening skin stress materials, providing a basis for reviewing safety-verified natural fragrance components as new functional material candidates.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for research on the skin aging improvement efficacy of suberic acid via olfactory receptors.
