This technology is a whitening composition containing 1 ppm to 100 ppm of the alkaloid deoxyvasicinone—or its salts, hydrates, or solvates—isolated and purified from natural sources as an active ingredient. It can be widely formulated into cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food products.
Melanin, produced in melanocytes by enzymes such as tyrosinase, can accumulate excessively due to UV exposure, hormones, and stress, leading to pigmentation issues like melasma, freckles, and age spots. Existing whitening agents have often been limited by insufficient efficacy duration and skin safety concerns.
This technology confirms through melanin production assays that deoxyvasicinone inhibits melanin synthesis, allowing for whitening effects even at low concentrations. It can be applied to cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food products for improving hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma, solar lentigo, and age spots, enabling the development of both whitening product lines and health supplements from a single natural source.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the development of Korean-style ex vivo skin models and integrated animal-alternative efficacy evaluation technology based on 3D skin tissue.
