This technology is a cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical, or fragrance composition that uses ethyl acetoacetate compounds or their salts as an active ingredient to improve stress-induced neurological disorders—such as depression, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and panic disorders—as well as stress-induced skin conditions.
Excessive mental stress causes sustained cortisol secretion via the HPA axis, which damages neurons and creates a vicious cycle of anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. The skin is also a target for stress hormones, leading to the worsening of dermatitis, hair loss, and acne, yet there are few materials that address both the nervous system and the skin simultaneously.
This technology leverages the ability of ethyl acetoacetate to inhibit glucocorticoid-responsive gene expression in fibroblasts and neurons, targeting both emotional symptoms and skin conditions such as alopecia areata, lichen simplex chronicus, prurigo, and dyshidrotic eczema. It can be applied to aroma-based sleep and relaxation products, stress-care cosmetics, and mental health supplements, opening a path for the long-term management of chronic stress-related conditions through everyday products.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for research into the collagen production regulation system in the dermis mediated by skin olfactory receptors.
