This technology utilizes thrombopoietin, a platelet-producing growth factor, as an active ingredient to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth, excluding cases caused by radiation exposure.
Hair loss treatment has traditionally relied on hair transplants or drugs like Propecia and Minoxidil; however, these drugs often lead to resumed hair loss once treatment is stopped. Furthermore, side effects such as sexual dysfunction have been reported with Minoxidil, making long-term use a concern.
This technology repurposes thrombopoietin—previously known only for treating thrombocytopenia—as a hair growth agent after discovering that it stimulates dermal papilla cells and promotes whisker follicle growth. It can be applied to hair loss treatments, quasi-drug hair loss relief products, and scalp/hair care cosmetics, allowing for a diverse product range from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics using a single protein ingredient.
