This technology is a composition for alleviating skin barrier damage that uses glycycoumarin, a component derived from licorice, or its stereoisomers, salts, hydrates, or solvates as an active ingredient. It is provided in the form of cosmetic and food compositions.
When skin is exposed to environmental stressors like UV rays, skin barrier homeostasis is disrupted, leading to dryness, roughness, and a loss of vitality. In particular, cortisol, a stress hormone increased by UV exposure, contributes to barrier damage, yet there has been a lack of ingredients that can regulate this without side effects.
This technology utilizes glycycoumarin to inhibit the activity of 11β-HSD1, an enzyme responsible for cortisol production, thereby reducing cortisol levels in the skin and alleviating UV-induced barrier damage. It can be formulated at 0.5–6 wt% of the total composition weight. Applicable to both barrier-strengthening skincare and inner beauty products, it enables the development of dual-action topical and ingestible skin protection lines.
