This technology is an antibacterial composition containing a chlorella extract that induces fluorescence when exposed to 405nm LED light, along with an aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution. This composition can be utilized in food, cosmetics, oral hygiene products, and pharmaceutical compositions for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases.
Brushing can cause mechanical damage to the oral mucosa, and antibacterial agents have limitations in managing oral microorganisms due to misuse, overuse, and the development of resistant bacteria. Photodynamic therapy, used as an alternative, often uses long wavelengths of 500nm or higher, which results in lower energy and reduced clinical antibacterial efficacy.
This technology uses high-energy 405nm short-wavelength light to activate natural chlorella extract, achieving significantly higher antibacterial activity compared to non-irradiated conditions. It effectively removes biofilms that are difficult to eliminate with conventional antibacterial agents and targets various oral bacteria, including those causing cavities and periodontal disease. It can be applied to oral hygiene products like toothpaste and mouthwash, as well as dental phototherapy aids, providing a natural oral care solution that reduces reliance on synthetic antibiotics.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for the development of natural substance-based oral photodynamic therapy for maintaining oral health.
