This technology identifies Bronopol as an inhibitor of the histone acetyltransferase p300 and provides pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment and prevention of fibrosis, as well as food and cosmetic compositions for improvement, containing it as an active ingredient.
Fibrosis is a disease characterized by the abnormal accumulation of collagen matrix in organs such as the liver, lungs, kidneys, and skin. In particular, there have been few approved treatments for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Steroid-based drugs and antioxidant therapies have not shown clear efficacy and are associated with systemic side effects and drug resistance issues upon long-term administration.
This technology enables the fundamental inhibition of fibrosis-related diseases by using Bronopol to suppress the activity of the p300 enzyme, which is involved in the expression of fibrotic genes. Since Bronopol is a substance with already verified safety, it offers the potential to reduce development time and costs through a drug repurposing approach. It can be applied to treatments for pulmonary, hepatic, and renal fibrosis, as well as cosmetics and health functional foods for improving skin sclerosis, making it a candidate for rapid clinical entry in the fibrosis market, where there is a significant gap in available treatments.
