This technology involves skin-whitening cosmetics, pharmaceutical compositions for treating pigmentation disorders, and whitening food compositions that utilize Bacillus gibsonii isolated from Gwangyang Bay seawater and 4-hydroxysatavacin obtained from it in high yields, along with methods for their production.
Skin tone, dark spots, and blemishes are primarily caused by melanin, which is produced in melanocytes through the action of enzymes like tyrosinase. Excessive production due to UV exposure or stress leads to hyperpigmentation. Existing whitening ingredients often face safety concerns or lack sufficient efficacy, and 4-hydroxysatavacin has been difficult to utilize due to the lack of efficient production methods.
This technology effectively inhibits melanin production using a natural marine microbial substance, helping to prevent and improve dark spots, freckles, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It enables the acquisition of raw materials with higher yields than previously possible through organic solvent extraction and chromatography. It can be applied to functional whitening cosmetics, topical treatments for pigmentation, and inner-beauty whitening foods, ensuring a stable supply of safe marine-derived whitening ingredients.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the development of alternative animal testing technologies for evaluating the skin efficacy of new functional cosmetics using human full-thickness skin models.
