This technology utilizes aliphatic aldehydes—specifically undecanal, dodecanal, or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts—as active ingredients in pharmaceutical, quasi-drug, cosmetic, and health functional food compositions to provide anti-stress, anti-depressant, and anti-anxiety effects.
Chronic psychological stress can lead to conditions such as depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. However, existing treatments often have limitations, including side effects and the burden of medication, making them difficult to use for daily management. Furthermore, there is a lack of safe materials beyond pharmaceuticals that can assist in emotional regulation through cosmetics or food products.
Because undecanal and dodecanal demonstrate excellent anti-stress, anti-depressant, and anti-anxiety effects, this technology allows for a wide range of formulations using a single active ingredient, from pharmaceuticals like tablets and capsules to cosmetics such as creams, shampoos, and body lotions. It can be applied to stress-relief medications, aroma and emotional-care cosmetics, and mental-health functional foods, enabling the creation of an emotional-care product lineup based on a single material.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s research project on identifying olfactory receptors that act as drug targets for anti-obesity phytochemicals.
