This technology is an anticancer composition for lung cancer that uses the Polyporus tuberaster strain, cultured in a medium containing dextrose and potato starch, or its culture broth as an active ingredient.
Conventional chemotherapy drugs often cause significant side effects such as hair loss, diarrhea, and weakened immunity by attacking healthy cells, while targeted therapies face challenges with drug resistance due to the rapid adaptation of cancer cells. Polyporus tuberaster has previously been known only for its use in treating hypercholesterolemia or as an ingredient in hair care products, with its potential as an anticancer agent remaining unexplored.
This technology enables the culture broth of the strain, grown in a specific medium, to exhibit anticancer activity by inhibiting MEK-ERK signaling in lung cancer cells, inducing apoptosis, and slowing cell cycle progression. It can be applied to the development of natural mushroom-derived lung cancer treatment candidates, anticancer adjuvants, and functional mushroom ingredients, allowing for the establishment of a natural product-based anticancer pipeline with fewer side effects.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for mitochondrial metabolism-based integrated aging control.
