This technology is a cosmetic composition containing, as an active ingredient, bittern processed by an electrodialysis device equipped with monovalent ion-selective ion-exchange resins, adjusted to an electrical conductivity of 92–96 mS/cm. This bittern exhibits both skin whitening and wrinkle-improving activities.
While demand for functional cosmetics for whitening and wrinkle improvement is growing rapidly, many existing active ingredients are synthetic, raising concerns about side effects such as skin irritation. Bittern, a natural mineral material, has been difficult to use as a cosmetic ingredient due to significant variations in composition, making it hard to ensure consistent efficacy.
This technology standardizes electrodialysis conditions—such as current, voltage, and flow rate—to consistently produce bittern with excellent tyrosinase inhibition, elastase inhibition, and collagen synthesis-promoting effects. It can be applied to dual-functional whitening and anti-wrinkle cosmetics as well as moisturizing products, allowing Jeollanam-do sea salt byproducts (bittern) to be utilized as safe, natural functional ingredients.
This invention was developed with research support from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for the industrialization of sea salt and halophytes.
