This technology is a cosmetic composition for preventing and improving wrinkles that uses a subcritical water extract of kelp, obtained solely through water under high-temperature and high-pressure subcritical conditions, as an active ingredient. The extract obtained at 3 MPa and 210°C showed the best results in both anti-wrinkle activity and extraction yield.
Aging, UV exposure, and stress weaken the skin barrier and reduce collagen, leading to wrinkles. However, many existing anti-wrinkle ingredients are synthetic or extracted using organic solvents, raising safety concerns. Natural ingredients derived from seaweed also face issues with low activity and yield when extracted with organic solvents.
By using subcritical extraction with water as the solvent, this technology significantly enhances elastase inhibitory activity and collagen synthesis compared to organic solvent extraction, while eliminating toxicity concerns. It can be applied to anti-aging creams, essences, and other functional anti-wrinkle cosmetics, allowing kelp, which is abundant on the west coast, to be transformed into a high-value cosmetic ingredient.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for the branding of Jangheung seaweed resources and the creation of a seafood cluster.
