This technology is a whitening cosmetic composition containing an extract of the native halophyte Polygonum vellardii All as an active ingredient. It also encompasses pharmaceutical compositions for treating and preventing hyperpigmentation disorders, quasi-drug whitening compositions, and methods for their production. The extract is utilized in the form of water or alcohol solvent extracts, or as ethyl acetate or chloroform fractions.
Skin tone, dark spots, and blemishes are largely determined by melanin, which is produced in melanocytes through the action of enzymes such as tyrosinase. Since the body lacks enzymes to break down melanin, excess production leads to persistent pigmentation. Consequently, there has been a demand for natural whitening agents that effectively inhibit melanin production while minimizing toxicity and side effects.
This technology features an extract of Polygonum vellardii All that effectively inhibits melanin synthesis, with a potency up to three times greater than arbutin. Derived from a native halophyte, it is safe to use without concerns regarding toxicity or side effects. It is highly valuable for developing whitening product lines that leverage the unique selling point of being made from domestic natural ingredients, suitable for both functional whitening cosmetics and quasi-drug products for pigmentation improvement.
