Composition for Improving Pigmentation Induced by Fine Dust Using IRE 1α Inhibition

This technology utilizes an IRE 1α inhibitor represented by Formula 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food compositions to prevent, treat, and improve pigmentation such as melasma, freckles, and solar lentigo. It functions by regulating cellular stress responses associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress to inhibit melanin synthesis.

Fine dust is known to adhere to the skin and penetrate pores, causing skin trouble, aging, and pigmentation. However, there has been a lack of materials capable of directly targeting and treating hyperpigmentation caused by fine dust at the cellular stress response level.

This technology inhibits melanin synthesis by blocking IRE 1α to suppress the unfolded protein response (UPR), showing excellent efficacy in treating hyperpigmentation caused by fine dust. It can be applied to whitening cosmetics, treatments for pigmentary disorders, and skin-tone improving foods, enabling the development of anti-pollution whitening product lines for consumers exposed to urban air pollution.

‍

Key Features:
  • A pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of pigmentation comprising an IRE 1α inhibitor represented by Formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient
  • A composition targeting one or more types of pigmentation, including melasma, freckles, age spots, blemishes, nevi, and solar lentigo
  • Cosmetic and food compositions for preventing or improving pigmentation containing an IRE 1α inhibitor as an active ingredient
  • A composition targeting pigmentation caused or likely to be caused by urban particulate matter

‍

This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for research on pigmentation mechanisms via the ATP/P2X7 axis and the development of pigmentation preventatives and treatments through the discovery of natural P2X7 inhibitors.
