This technology is a reagent composition that uses a hexenol compound—a naturally derived fragrance ingredient—or its acceptable salts as an active ingredient to reduce stress-related signals and gene expression in human dermal fibroblasts in an in vitro environment. The registered scope of rights covers the reagent composition, which is used for researching and evaluating the efficacy of stress-relief materials.
Stress arises from physical, psychological, and physiological stimuli, increasing glucocorticoid secretion from the adrenal cortex; when chronic, it leads to depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Existing stress-relief products often lack clear mechanisms of action or carry risks of side effects with long-term use, creating a demand for safe, natural alternatives.
This technology enables the verification of stress-relief efficacy by using the ability of hexenol to lower GRE promoter activity and the mRNA expression of GILZ and FKBP5 genes as markers. As it is a component already used in fragrances and food additives, it is easily accessible as a candidate material. It can be applied to efficacy evaluation during the development of stress-care cosmetics and fragrance ingredients, as well as in skin cell-based screening reagents, helping to establish new functional evidence for natural fragrance components.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for research into the collagen production regulation system in the dermis mediated by skin olfactory receptors.
