This technology features a novel block copolymer combining specific repeating units x and y in a 1:4 to 6 ratio, along with CO2 separation membranes, modules, and devices incorporating it. The membrane material is produced by synthesizing two types of monomer compounds and polymerizing them at a defined ratio.
While absorption, adsorption, and cryogenic methods have been developed to reduce greenhouse gases, membrane separation processes are gaining attention due to their lower energy consumption. However, existing membranes often lack the thermal, chemical, and mechanical stability, as well as the CO2 selectivity and permeability, required for treating ship exhaust, syngas, or natural gas.
This technology utilizes a block copolymer structure to achieve superior thermal, chemical, and mechanical stability while simultaneously providing high CO2 selectivity and permeability. It can be configured as a device that separates CO2 from mixed gases containing water vapor. Applicable to large-scale ship exhaust treatment, syngas purification in hydrogen/urea plants, and natural gas pretreatment, it contributes to building low-energy carbon capture processes.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Education for the development of blue carbon biomass-based source materials and the establishment of a marine resource recycling platform.
