This technology is a soil box testing device for emergency sinkhole restoration, featuring a compartment module within a frame filled with backfill soil and expanding material, with elastic elements placed at the bottom and sides between the frame and the module. The elastic elements generate a restoring force against the backfill load and expansion pressure, accurately replicating the stiffness conditions of the ground surrounding an actual cavity.
In urban areas, sinkholes caused by aging water and sewage pipes are frequent, leading to the development of emergency restoration methods; however, there has been a lack of standards and reliable test data to verify the performance of expansion materials. Existing soil boxes for load testing have fixed volumes, treating the surrounding ground as a rigid body, which fails to reflect the actual behavior of ground that compacts while absorbing some of the expansion pressure.
This technology combines elastic elements that push against bottom and side partition plates, side panels that slide along rails, and a blocking unit that prevents upward movement of the cover to simulate ground contraction and stiffness changes during compaction. The backfill and expansion material are contained in a flexible sheet, preventing direct contact with the compartment module and facilitating repeated testing. It can be applied to performance evaluations of expansion fillers for emergency sinkhole repair and the establishment of construction standards, enabling the acquisition of verification data that closely mirrors field conditions.
