This technology is a food composition for improving or preventing hypertension, containing a hexane fraction obtained by extracting Nardostachys chinensis with methanol as an active ingredient.
Hypertension is the most common chronic circulatory disease that, while often asymptomatic, can lead to fatal complications such as stroke, heart failure, and coronary artery disease. Existing antihypertensive drugs have reported side effects including lethargy, leukopenia, angioedema, liver dysfunction, dry cough, and taste disturbances. Consequently, there has been a need for natural food ingredients that can safely inhibit soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH), a target gaining attention for blood pressure reduction.
This technology identifies the hexane fraction of Nardostachys chinensis methanol extract, which demonstrates superior sEH inhibitory activity compared to other solvents or fractions, to prevent the degradation of epoxide fatty acids involved in blood pressure regulation. As a plant-based ingredient traditionally used for stomachic and sedative purposes, it is easy to ensure its safety. It can be applied to health functional foods for blood pressure management, functional beverages for pre-hypertensive individuals, and the development of new natural sEH-inhibiting materials, offering an option to manage blood pressure through daily food intake while avoiding the side effects of synthetic chemical drugs.
