This technology is a feed additive composition for livestock containing Angelica gigas extract as an active ingredient, obtained by extracting the medicinal herb with water, low-grade alcohol, or a mixed solvent thereof. It is designed to be mixed into feed during the summer season when temperatures exceed 28°C.
As global warming increases the number of heatwaves and tropical nights, livestock experience elevated respiration rates and body temperatures, leading to weight loss, weakened immunity, and increased disease and mortality. Despite the expected decline in livestock productivity, technologies to maintain productivity and reduce mortality during high-temperature periods have not been well-established, and there is a shortage of non-toxic natural materials.
This technology involves mixing a small amount of Angelica gigas extract, obtained via aqueous alcohol extraction, into feed to increase feed intake and weight gain in heat-stressed livestock while strengthening immunity. It is particularly effective for broiler farms vulnerable to heat. Applicable to summer broiler and layer feed, functional additives for pigs and Korean cattle, and heatwave response supplements, it allows for the reduction of livestock mortality and production losses using only natural herbal ingredients as heatwave damage intensifies.
This invention was developed with support from the Rural Development Administration’s research on heat stress pathway regulation and mechanisms of livestock productivity decline under high-temperature exposure.
