This technology utilizes a pregnancy-promoting composition containing the coumestan-type phytoestrogen coumestrol as an active ingredient to enhance the migration and proliferation of trophoblast cells derived from non-human mammals.
While ovulation and fertilization issues have been largely addressed by IVF, infertility caused by implantation failure has lacked clear solutions. Previous research on promoting implantation and pregnancy has focused on proteolytic enzymes like MMP-9, with no known mechanisms for improving implantation efficiency using natural plant compounds.
This technology leverages the fact that coumestrol activates the PI3K/AKT and ERK1/2 MAPK signaling pathways in trophoblast cells, promoting the cell migration and proliferation necessary for embryos to attach to the endometrium. As a natural compound, it carries a lower risk of toxicity and side effects compared to synthetic alternatives. It can be applied to improve reproductive efficiency in livestock such as pigs, as an adjuvant for treating implantation-related infertility, and as a cell treatment for embryo implantation research, offering a new approach to improving pregnancy outcomes that previously failed at the implantation stage.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for the analysis of gene expression networks by parity in sows and the development of reproductive capacity enhancement technology.
