This technology involves pharmaceutical and food compositions for promoting pregnancy and preventing or treating infertility, using the chemokine CCL2 as an active ingredient. It also includes methods for enhancing endometrial cell proliferation and reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress using CCL2.
While infertility caused by ovulation disorders or embryo transport issues is largely addressed by IVF, there has been no clear solution for infertility due to implantation failure. Furthermore, endoplasmic reticulum stress in female reproductive organs is linked to abnormal placental development, fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia, and miscarriage, yet there has been a lack of safe substances capable of simultaneously promoting endometrial cell proliferation and reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress.
This technology leverages the ability of CCL2 to activate PI3K/AKT and MAPK signaling pathways to promote endometrial cell proliferation, while downregulating endoplasmic reticulum stress-inducing proteins such as IRE1α, ATF6α, GRP78, and CHOP. As it uses an endogenous substance, it offers lower toxicity and fewer side effects than synthetic chemicals, with additional potential for mitigating inflammatory responses. It can be applied in fertility clinic implantation support, functional foods for women of childbearing age, and endometrial treatments to improve livestock breeding efficiency, helping to reduce failure rates during the implantation stage that remain difficult to overcome even with IVF.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for research into the role of zinc ion transporters in inhibiting inflammatory placental formation and associated epigenetic changes.
