This technology is a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of gestational trophoblastic disease, and a health functional food composition for prevention and improvement, containing 4-MBC, avobenzone, or a mixture thereof as an active ingredient. The active ingredient inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion of trophoblast cells and induces apoptosis.
Gestational trophoblastic diseases, such as choriocarcinoma and hydatidiform mole, occur when trophoblast cells proliferate abnormally and exhibit excessive migration and invasion. Choriocarcinoma, in particular, is highly vascular and frequently metastasizes to the lungs or vagina. About 15–25% of patients show resistance and poor prognosis with the standard EMA-CO chemotherapy, and there has been a lack of research on external factors that directly regulate trophoblast cell proliferation and invasion.
This technology is configured to inhibit cell proliferation and invasion by having 4-MBC and avobenzone regulate the phosphorylation of downstream substances in the PI3K/AKT and ERK1/2 MAPK signaling pathways in trophoblast cells. Target diseases include choriocarcinoma, hydatidiform mole, and placental site trophoblastic tumor. Methods for inhibiting the proliferation, migration, and invasion of non-human mammalian trophoblast cells and increasing their apoptosis are also claimed. It can be applied to therapeutic candidates for chemotherapy-resistant choriocarcinoma, research on preventing malignant progression after hydatidiform mole, and models for evaluating trophoblast invasiveness, providing new signaling-targeted treatment strategies for patients unresponsive to existing chemotherapy.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the discovery and validation of exosome biomarkers related to early diagnosis, recurrence prediction, and chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer based on liquid biopsy.
