This technology is a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of osteosarcoma, and a health functional food composition for prevention and improvement, containing the plant-derived natural substance myricetin as an active ingredient. Myricetin inhibits the proliferation of osteosarcoma cells and induces apoptosis.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor, occurring at a high rate particularly in dogs. While chemotherapy using agents such as doxorubicin, cisplatin, and carboplatin, alongside surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy, has improved survival rates, these drugs are highly toxic and cause significant side effects. There has been a lack of safe therapeutic alternatives or complementary agents.
This technology regulates PI3K/AKT and MAPK signaling pathways to inhibit osteosarcoma cell proliferation. When combined with one or more inhibitors—such as the PI3K/AKT inhibitor LY294002, the ERK1/2 inhibitor U0126, or the JNK inhibitor SP600125—it creates a synergistic effect on apoptosis. It also includes methods for inhibiting proliferation and promoting apoptosis in non-human mammalian osteosarcoma cell lines. Applicable as an anticancer drug for canine osteosarcoma, an adjuvant for existing chemotherapy, or in bone health functional foods, it reduces reliance on highly toxic drugs while enhancing tumor cell elimination through targeted inhibitor combinations.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the discovery and validation of exosome biomarkers related to early diagnosis, recurrence prediction, and anticancer drug resistance in ovarian cancer based on liquid biopsy.
