This technology utilizes the antioxidant glutathione as an active ingredient in a composition designed to mitigate reproductive toxicity caused by the endocrine disruptor Bisphenol A, as well as in food compositions for prevention and improvement. It is formulated to reverse oxidative stress and functional decline in sperm exposed to Bisphenol A.
Bisphenol A is a major endocrine-disrupting chemical widely used in the plastics industry. It is persistent, accumulates in the body, and increases reactive oxygen species in sperm, which impairs motility, capacitation, fertilization, and embryo development, leading to infertility. Because exposure occurs daily through the mouth, respiratory tract, and skin, reducing exposure alone has limitations, and there have been few effective countermeasures to mitigate toxicity after exposure.
This technology leverages the ability of glutathione to inhibit reactive oxygen species generation, excessive activation of protein kinase A, and protein tyrosine nitration caused by Bisphenol A, thereby mitigating the decline in sperm capacitation and early embryo development. It can be applied to health supplements for male infertility, additives for sperm processing and preservation media in IVF, and reproductive health products for those frequently exposed to environmental hormones, helping to protect sperm fertilization capacity and embryonic development potential despite unavoidable daily exposure to Bisphenol A.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Education's project for the development of integrated biological systems for controlling the risks of endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
