This technology involves pharmaceutical and food compositions for the prevention and treatment of male menopause syndrome, using extracts obtained from rice bran via water or C1-C6 alcohols as an active ingredient. These extracts increase the expression of male hormone-related genes and proteins in male testicular cells and promote testosterone secretion.
Male menopause is caused by a gradual decline in hormones like testosterone due to aging, leading to symptoms such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, depression, and loss of muscle mass and bone density. Standard hormone replacement therapy often carries side effects, including prostate enlargement, worsening of prostate cancer, sleep apnea, gynecomastia, polycythemia, and increased cardiovascular risk. While gamma-oryzanol, a key component of rice bran, has been reported to alleviate female menopause, it has been noted to be ineffective at raising testosterone in men, and rice bran has not previously been used as a material for male menopause.
This technology utilizes rice bran as a novel natural material, based on the discovery that even hot water extracts—which contain almost no gamma-oryzanol—effectively promote male hormone secretion, suggesting that other components in rice bran are at work. It targets a wide range of symptoms, including hypogonadism, benign prostatic hyperplasia, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, loss of vitality, and reduced body hair, with a primary focus on testosterone deficiency. Applicable to health supplements for male menopause, natural medicine to complement hormone therapy, and functional ingredients from rice milling byproducts, this technology allows for the creation of materials that boost internal testosterone production without direct hormone administration.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for the establishment of organic cultivation methods for fermented sawdust peanut sprouts and the verification of the prostate health benefits of their extracts.
