This technology features a pharmaceutical composition and health food product for the prevention and treatment of postoperative ileus, utilizing ilaprazole as an active ingredient to enhance the motility of the stomach and small intestine impaired by ileus. It also includes compositions that treat and improve the inhibition of gastrointestinal motility caused by ileus.
Following abdominal surgery, patients are prone to ileus due to adhesions during tissue healing or paralysis of bowel movements caused by anesthesia and the surgery itself. Postoperative ileus causes significant patient distress, increases hospital stays and medical costs, and can lead to fatal complications such as perforation or ischemic shock, necessitating prompt treatment; however, there have been limited pharmacological options for its prevention and treatment.
This technology is based on the ability of ilaprazole to increase antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and restore gastrointestinal motility in cases of surgery-induced ileus, with the composition formulated to contain a specific range of ilaprazole. It can be applied to recovery-promoting prescriptions after abdominal surgery, medications for gastrointestinal motility disorders, and health foods for surgical patients, thereby accelerating the recovery of bowel function and reducing both hospital stays and the risk of complications.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for research on peristaltic changes and molecular protective mechanisms in intestinal obstruction and irritable bowel syndrome.
