This technology is a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of arthritis, and a health functional food composition for prevention and improvement, containing both poly-gamma-glutamic acid and methotrexate as active ingredients. This composition inhibits the differentiation of bone-destroying osteoclasts and lowers levels of immunoglobulin G and G2a.
Arthritis is a disease in which inflammatory cytokines trigger a chain reaction that increases the production of nitric oxide and matrix-degrading enzymes, destroying cartilage and joint tissue. It ranges from autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis to degenerative osteoarthritis. Because inflammatory responses, immune abnormalities, and bone destruction occur simultaneously, targeting only one pathway has had limitations in effectively controlling joint damage.
This technology combines the two components in a specific molar ratio to also reduce the activity of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-17, IL-1β, and TNF-α, and targets a wide range of joint diseases including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout. It can be applied to combination prescription drugs for rheumatoid arthritis, methotrexate adjuvant formulations, and joint health functional foods, providing a comprehensive treatment option that simultaneously inhibits inflammatory signals, autoimmune antibodies, and bone destruction to slow the progression of joint damage.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare's T2B Infrastructure Center for Joint and Immune Diseases.
