This technology provides pharmaceutical compositions and health functional foods for pain suppression and prevention, containing 5-methacrylamidoisophthalic acid derivatives represented by Formula 1, or their salts or isomers, as active ingredients. Inhibitory effects have been confirmed in models of formalin-induced pain, CFA-induced inflammatory hyperalgesia, mechanical and thermal hyperalgesia, and neuropathic pain.
Current analgesics are divided into non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)/COX-2 inhibitors and opioids like morphine, both of which are largely ineffective against neuropathic pain. Opioids carry risks of severe side effects and addiction at higher doses, while NSAIDs require higher dosages for efficacy and are associated with gastrointestinal side effects.
This technology is designed to alleviate both inflammatory and neuropathic hyperalgesia with a single compound, targeting a wide range of conditions including osteoarthritis, postoperative pain, cancer pain, chemotherapy-induced pain, postherpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia, and migraines. It can be applied to treatments for neuropathic pain unresponsive to existing drugs, management of chemotherapy-induced pain, and health functional foods for chronic joint pain, offering a non-narcotic alternative that reduces reliance on opioids and NSAIDs by managing both pain types with one ingredient.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT for the development of core technologies for pain control and assessment based on input neural network molecular mechanisms.
