This technology is a composition for the prevention and treatment of viral infectious diseases, containing a complex of 3-MA or chloroquine (ROS production inhibitors) and SOD1 (a superoxide dismutase ROS scavenger) as active ingredients. This complex can also be provided as a food composition, feed additive, disinfectant, or cosmetic composition.
Respiratory viruses like influenza A activate endoplasmic reticulum stress and autophagy upon infection, hindering ROS removal by degrading antioxidant proteins such as SOD. This leads to cytokine storms, cell death, and severe oxidative damage. Existing vaccines are limited by their specificity to certain viruses, requiring new development for every mutation.
This technology uses production inhibitors to block ROS generation by suppressing ER stress and autophagy, while SOD1 scavenges existing ROS. Additional scavengers like N-acetylcysteine, glutathione, catalase, or BHA can be added, and the composition can be formulated for nasal or oral inhalation. It can be applied as an adjuvant for influenza, COVID-19, or HIV treatment, a universal prophylactic inhalant for new viral outbreaks, or a feed additive for livestock disease control. By exploiting the mechanism where viruses use host oxidative damage to replicate, it inhibits viral growth regardless of type or mutation while reducing tissue damage.
