This technology is a room-temperature curing silicone reinforcement member designed to prevent gaps within concrete. It features a cylindrical body with vertically bent anchoring sections at both ends, finished with hemispherical anti-void caps.
While concrete is strong under compression, it is weak in tension, making long members prone to cracking. These cracks allow water and moisture to penetrate, leading to corrosion and structural damage. Although elastic concrete compositions or those containing elastic particles have been proposed, they often require special additives or fail to adequately address tensile strength reinforcement.
This technology features longitudinal compression holes within the body and anchoring sections, fitted with disc-shaped elastic supports. The member is inserted in a compressed state and expands once pressure is released, ensuring a tight fit against the concrete. The compression holes connect to the exterior, and the interior angles where the body meets the anchoring sections are curved to eliminate voids. Additionally, elliptical elastic streamlined members are included to enhance ductility against vibrations. Suitable for long-span slabs, beams, bridge decks, and seismic-resistant public buildings, this solution allows for the use of standard concrete mixes while significantly increasing resistance to tensile cracks and vibration damage.
This invention was developed with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the development of low-heat cement manufacturing and utilization technology that replaces more than 5 wt.% of limestone using non-carbonate raw materials.
