This technology is a composition that uses a water extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorn as an active ingredient to inhibit the metastasis of prostate cancer cells. It works by selectively reducing the expression of the collagen receptor α2β1 integrin, thereby weakening collagen-mediated adhesion and migration.
Existing treatments such as androgen deprivation therapy, prostatectomy, and radiation therapy have been ineffective at preventing the metastasis of prostate cancer cells, leading to persistently high mortality rates due to metastasis. Most anticancer drugs focus on inhibiting cancer cell proliferation, leaving a gap in the development of natural product-based therapeutic agents that specifically target metastatic stages like adhesion and migration.
This technology enables Gleditsia sinensis thorn extract to inhibit α2β1 integrin expression and FAK phosphorylation signaling, specifically blocking prostate cancer metastasis even at levels that do not induce cytotoxicity. In animal models, oral administration was also confirmed to reduce xenograft tumor size. It can be applied to anticancer adjuvants for suppressing prostate cancer metastasis as well as health functional foods for prevention and improvement, allowing for the development of natural product-based anti-metastatic products with a lower risk of side effects.
