This technology is a wearable safety device that integrates a sound sensor, control unit, gas generator, and airbag into a belt worn by pedestrians. It instantly inflates the airbag when it detects a risk of collision based on vehicle horn or emergency braking sounds. The sensor and control unit are housed within the buckle, the gas generator is located on the side of the buckle, and the airbag is positioned between the inner and outer layers of the belt strap.
Conventional airbags are installed inside vehicles to protect occupants only, leaving pedestrians on the road unprotected. There has been no portable means available to directly protect a pedestrian's body in the moments immediately preceding a vehicle-pedestrian collision.
This technology determines if a vehicle is approaching by comparing the frequency pattern of sampled horn sounds against emergency horn patterns. If the sound volume exceeds a threshold, the airbag inflates, causing the outer part of the belt strap to detach and the airbag to deploy. Applicable to safety gear for children and the elderly, as well as protective equipment for nighttime road workers, it provides a wearable solution to reduce physical injury to pedestrians just before a collision.
